B-Boy Leony from Brazil takes the win in the Last Chance Cypher and with that claims his place in the line-up for the Red Bull BC One World Final this Saturday.
Two days before the big Finals, after a day filled with workshops, cyphers and battles, a crowd of dancers and fans huddles around the dancefloor in a packed WesterUnie for the highlight of the day: The Last Chance Cypher. Online join another 279k people through the facebook live video. This competition is the last chance for one of the 31 qualified dancers to win a spot in the Finals. And this may be another Cypher but all these dancers are winners of their national Cyphers, so national champions. You can imagine the level was crazy high!
The competition started off with demonstration rounds for all 31 dancers out of which the judges picked a top 16 to face off in a knock-out system. On the judges seats were Red Bull BC One All Stars Ronnie, Roxrite (USA), Taisuke (Japan), Pelezinho (Brazilië) and Lilou (France). DJ Smirnoff kept the dancers on edge with a variety of beats. Hosts Mario Bee and Swifty introduced the dancers and hyped up the crowd.
The tension in the room was rising when Dutch Champion Justen took round after round looking sharp. In the end, it was Justen and Leony in the finals and after three rounds of giving it their all, the judges gave it to Leony.
This all-round B-Boy representing the Amazon crew from Brazil took this battle last year as well, then, unfortunately, losing the first round in Finals. This year he claims a second chance and will be facing Thesis in the World Final this Saturday.These are the winners of the year.
